Taking Slumlord to small claims iso advice

So my (f21) previous landlord (older) is past the 30 days (as stated in the lease in NC), and has not sent an itemized list within the 30 days. He won’t budge sending the full amount after I let him know that I will be taking legal action. I think he believes that I won’t actually do it and is trying to take advantage because I am young. I’ve done my research as far as what I should do to get the deposit back and I have made a file of all the slummy things he had us do for the house since he lives 2hrs away and doesn’t want to do it along with things he hasn’t done for us. I also have a screenshot in my files of when we first moved in and him confirming the cleaner didn’t come before we moved in and it was messy. I find it funny because despite the deep clean he claims it was left a mess.
I’m adding screenshots of our current conversation and so far my plan is to not respond to the last message he sent and take this to small claims court since he is not budging on sending the full amount and I won’t accept that.
What are next steps? What should I have prepared? Is it likely I can win this? I never had to go to court or small claims or an experience like this and want to be sure he knows that just I’m young doesn’t give him the right to take advantage of tenants.
