Aging-in-Place in less than 900sqft — Can this work?

Thanks in advance!

Trying to make a small home function well for aging parents, without making it feel institutional.

Main goals are simplicity, accessibility, and minimizing wasted space.

This version includes:

  • private recliner/TV room
  • simple linear kitchen
  • small eating nook (their preference)
  • powder room for guest (their preference) I know it's tiny.
  • zero-entry shower
  • lots of storage/drop zones (downsizing from 2400sqft)
  • twin adjustable beds

Would love feedback so I can lock in the design. Also, is it feasible to use mini split system vs traditional HVAC system?

Senior Living Floor Plan - Feedback Please

Renovating a home a senior couple looking to age in place. The 2 black boxes are things that cannot be moved (chimney and basement steps headroom), along with window placement and the fireplace. Resell value is not of concern, the floorplan only needs to work for this particular aging couple.

Must Haves:

  • Entryway storage large enough for walkers, canes, mobility assistants
  • 1.5 bathrooms
  • Zero entry shower in bedroom
  • Main floor laundry
  • Kitchen must accommodate a wall oven, fridge, and cooktop

A dining room would go unused, they only want space for a small bistro set. I could definitely make the laundry space smaller, just not sure what to do with the extra space.

Thanks!

Trying to map out a renovation project to create an age in place home. Basic requirements are 1 bedroom, 1.5 bathrooms, no tubs, main level laundry, space for two adults to move around with walkers. I tried to minimize removing walls to keep costs lower. Measurements are not exact but one square = 1 foot. I’d appreciate any thoughts/feedback.
