Cat 3 ankle replacement - elective surgery Fremantle Hospital

Old bloke here. I live rurally and have flown up to Perth 3 times for consults with orthopedic surgeons at Fremantle Hospital. After various tests I’ve been told that I am a suitable candidate for a total ankle replacement.
In about 10 days I am booked in to our local nursing post for our resident nurse to do a full medical, observations etc prior to having a telehealth appointment during which time I’ll be having my pre admission and pre anesthesia sessions. I was told this will take at least an hour or two. My question is, would surgery be soon after all this?
It seems a lot to go through if surgery wasn’t imminent as health wise at my age things can and do change with little warning.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced similar.
