Free shows in Seattle's green spaces

GreenStage opens its 37th season of free Shakespeare in the park this Friday, and they're doing something I haven't seen before: two plays rotating between two parks on the same weekend. Winter's Tale at Seward Park Friday night, Coriolanus at Lower Woodland, then they swap on Saturday.

The rest of the week is just as good. Tonight there's tango at Hing Hay Park (free lesson, no partner needed) and the Volunteer Park summer concert series kickoff with Eldridge Gravy and the Court Supreme. Saturday brings Wooden O's Macbeth to Columbia City, Polish Festival at Seattle Center, and a flute ensemble at the Ballard Locks. Sunday closes with jazz on the water at the Locks.

I've been keeping a weekly list of all the free shows I can find around Seattle, and this is the best one yet: https://seattle.attendtickets.com/free

What are you thinking about catching this weekend?

Posted every week: free (and pay-what-you-choose) shows around Seattle

July 4 weekend is full of music and a once-per-run PWYC night on the East side!

Sat Jul 4, 12 PM: The Concert Truck at Columbia Park in Columbia City. Festival-caliber pianists playing an all-American program outdoors: Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, Barber's Souvenirs, Sousa's Stars and Stripes Forever. Four hands, one piano. No ticket. A piano loaded into a truck that parks and becomes a stage.

Sat Jul 4, 2 PM: Seattle Civic Band at the Ballard Locks. Free outdoor band music in the garden beside the locks. Pack a blanket, bring BBQ, find a patch of grass by the water. Boats locking through in the background. The chill Fourth option.

Sun Jul 5: The Concert Truck again at Seattle Center, 1 PM and 3 PM. Two sets, same all-American program.

Sun Jul 5, 2 PM: Cascadia Big Band at the Ballard Locks. Big-band swing over the water. Wind-down energy.

Fri Jul 3, 7:30 PM: Village Theatre in Everett opens a new musical comedy with pay-what-you-choose night. 50 choose-your-price seats.
