Inspired by "the" piano intermezzo - I call it Brahms Intercello

Yeah, yet again, I've written a self-accompanied cello music I can barely play myself. I can only focus my mind on a few things as I played. So excuse my lack of intonation plus lots of botched bars. Sheet music freely downloadable here.

This piece was going to be called "They DOGED my Piano; But I Can Still Brahms With Four Strings", until my friend Luis Cobo suggested "Brahms Intercello". I knew he was right the moment I saw his text.

This was written in 2024, but I hadn't discovered swing just yet then. Playing it classically didn't really resonate with folks, critically my better half. On a whim recently, I played it with a swing feel, and the music completely changed the opinion of the one person who mattered. She suggested that I play it faster, just beyond my actual abilities. The result is what you just heard.

This piece came about because I couldn't get the tune out of my head after listening to the talented Kevin Olusola play “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus” unaccompanied. At the time I was obsessed with turning popular tunes into Bach cello solos. I still am, but have since given up on folks recognizing original tunes. This one still preserved my earlier ambitions - swinging it did seem to sharpen focus on notes from the original tune. But Bach may be turning in his grave.
