New Flairs!

Hi everyone,

I've added a few new flairs and a new rule to go along with them. We now have the "Modded" flair as well as flairs for the popular mods: Lifegen, Genemod, Megamerge, and Disabilities & Disorders.

Please try to use these for posts regarding content from those mods (Screenshots, bugs, etc). It is helpful to the rest of the community to know where a post is coming from + if you're encountering a bug or crash, community members can offer feedback on where to report or circumvent a bug/crash that perhaps is only relevant to that mod.

If you all have other ideas of flairs that might be useful or perhaps flairs that are not used and need removing, please let me know!

Update on the Subreddit's Moderation

Hi, I just wanted to provide an update to my earlier post about the reddit’s lack of moderation.

My stance has been that subreddit moderation should be performed by community members who are not involved in ClanGen’s development. This is so that you all have a space where you can feel safe critiquing ClanGen and the features that are or are not added without feeling intimidated a developer on the moderation team.

That being said, as you might see already, I have been made a mod of the subreddit. That happened because the previous founder reached out to ClanGen’s moderation team on the discord and asked if they were interested in moderating the reddit. The moderation said no. To reiterate: This is not an officially moderated subreddit or Official ClanGen Subreddit, it is for the community and not going to be run by ClanGen staff or officially affiliated with ClanGen’s official discord server.

The mods did however, ask us developers if we had any interest and I pitched organizing a transfer back to the reddit community as I am active in the dev discord and the reddit community. That is how we’ve gotten there we are. The current head moderator is slowly transferring head modship over to me but reddit has a few hoops to jump through until that transition is fully complete.

My intentions are as follows:

  1. To revise the rules slightly to clarify them and emphasize a focus on safety and acceptance after the incidents recently with transphobia and ableism.

  2. Appoint active adult community members who have expressed interest in moderating in my previous thread.

  3. My intention is to stay on as an owner in case there is any future inactivity from moderation and in that case appoint other mods to perform actual moderation duties.

If there are any other suggestions, criticisms, or comments you all have as a community, Please let me know. This is your subreddit and I think any future decisions should take into consideration what you all want.

Subreddit Moderation

Hi Clangen reddit community,

I wanted to address something I've noticed and bring it to your attention. At the moment, the subreddit has no active moderators which is both against reddit TOS and unsafe for the community. I made a post earlier this summer about a noticeable uptick in ableist rhetoric which violates our subreddit's policy and is also harmful to community members. Last night there was a transphobic post that remained up until the user deleted it after backlash from community members including myself. Another thing is that there is no moderator to protect our subreddit if it were ever brigaded or subject to hate.

When subreddits have inactive moderations, users can appeal to reddit and ask to take over the subreddit and create a new moderation team.

As a member of ClanGen's development team, I feel like it is inappropriate to take that position on myself. This is a community driven subreddit and should stay community moderated. You all should be able to critique ClanGen should you wish without fear of upsetting a developer or having your post taken down because of bias.

My suggestion is that if there are some of you passionate about this subreddit and over the age of 18 to consider applying to take on the role of moderator and help keep the community safe from bigotry and safe for everyone.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on what that could look like as well!

UPDATE: u/olyvoyle is applying to take over the subreddit! Anyone else who wants to help out say so In the comments and I believe the plan is to eventually select some other mods to help out in this thread. Thank you all!

Ableism in Posts & Comments

Hi all, I wanted to issue a reminder to the community as a community member. Right now the mods are inactive and thus unable to enforce the rules but I’m sure we’ve all been seeing a lot of the ableist rhetoric about breeding “pretty” cats, pitying reactions to disabled cats, questioning disabled cats capability, remarking on “ugly” scars and killing “ugly” cats.

These are all ableist and per the subreddit’s rules, not allowed.

Please be conscious of the way you’re discussing genetics, killing cats due to their appearance, and permanent conditions.

Some Answers About Cruel Season

Hello! I am part of the development team and since I keep seeing questions about cruel season I wanted to share what I can. A few notes:

  1. I am a writing dev primarily. At the moment, there are no writing specific projects attached to cruel season.
  2. part of our code of conduct as developers is to be limited with the information we publicly share so we do not create false expectations in players or promise a timeline that is not feasible. I can't give a lot of details but I /can/ outline what has been shared publicly.

With that out of the way. What's going on with Cruel Season?

Some astute players have noticed in the ClanGen discord that developers are starting to post in the #pr-tracking or #devlog that developers are posting about adding code related to cruel season to our current DEVELOPMENT version of ClanGen.

Right now it is what it says on the tin. The development team are preparing the code necessary and functions necessary to make Cruel Season a playable difficulty level. At the moment, no content specific to cruel season exists nor is there any fundamental difference to play.... yet!

The most recent update of development revealed part of how cruel season is going to function: by choosing challenges that manipulate settings / difficulty level behind the scenes. Again. None of these are functional yet, but the framework has been made.

What does this mean? Cruel season is being built, but the framework comes before any actual playable content.

When will cruel season work in development? Don't know! It depends on the timeline of the developers working on the project at the moment. A lot of the impetus behind what gets worked on is generally what is inspiring people.

When will cruel season be released for stable? Even larger don't know! Not only do they have to make the difficulty playable, it will have to undergo a lot of playtesting to fine tune the modifiers and make it challenging but still fun for players.

How can I stay in the loop? Join the discord and keep an eye on the pr-tracking / devlog channels. Everything developers add to the game is public information.

I can try to answer some other questions if you all have any in the comment but again, there is only so much I can say without breaking our dev rules : )
