First Time Travel Advice Wanted!

Hi! My 16 year old daughter and I are travelling to Tokyo in 10 days for a week. We do not travel much and I am getting pretty nervous. Can I get anyones tips for first time travellers? We are staying in Ueno. I will have to get a physical SUICA card as I do not use apple but my daughter can just download one on her iPhone right? Jet lag wont be much of an issue since we are travelling during the day from Australia and its only 1hour time difference.

Koppers Logs Splitting

How do I prevent koppers logs from splitting?

The ones pictured may be FUBAR and need replacing but I have others not so far gone that I would like to not replace in the near future.

Someone said sump oil but I thought I would ask here.

Painting doors advice

I need advice about my doors I had painted. Apparently these are sealed top and bottom but the tops are rough to touch and the bottom are too. Obviously I cant fit my phone under the door but I took pictures of the tops. I called him and asked if this was sealed and apparantly only one coat is needed to seal. Is he taking the piss or am I being pedantic due to prior owners causing me shitty renovation trauma.

For reference, I am not a tradie and I bought this house 8 years ago. The existing doors all swelled, 3 bedroom doors, the toilet and the bathroom and had to be replaced and I found out they werent sealed top or bottom. I live in the tropics, work shiftwork so have aircon on a lot and my main fear is it happening again.

This study has been on my dashboard for days. Has this happened to anyone else?

Stairs Advice

I had my stairs replaced recently. I have a question that I would appreciate advice on. Where the external steel stringer is, should there be a piece of timber applied to hide it or tie it in? I circled it in red. I am a total novice and have zero idea on this stuff. The stairs do look amazing.

Also, will have to I stain and seal the treads and seal the rails?
