Georgia's 2027 recruiting class is on track to be their lowest rated in 27 years
The last time UGA had a recruiting class that was ranked lower than this one was 2000. We only have two commits out of the top 25 ranked prospects from the state of Georgia, somehow failing to get DJ Jacobs (WTF?). We keep losing priority targets to schools like Clemson and South Carolina, who shouldn't be able to outspend us, while having top commits like Wright and Outhouse flip to other schools for more money. We have seven blue chips, while the rest are depth pieces. The overall talent gap between UGA and schools like Miami, OSU, and the Texas teams is growing wider by the week.
No in-demand recruits are going to take a significant pay cut in order to play at Georgia. The G doesn't retain drawing power in the NIL era. These guys are trying to get paid now, in order to help themselves and their families, and I don't fault them for that at all. UGA losing players to schools that shouldn't be paying more is also alarming, which indicates that someone, somewhere is dropping the ball and is unable to connect with, or read these players. Priority targets like Chance Gilbert were thought to be 100% in the bag, then promptly committed to other teams. Most of the top 250 prospects are already locked down by other schools, as are most of the players that UGA has been targeting.
Just so this doesn't come off as a rant, does anyone have any ideas on how this can be fixed, aside from simply cutting the right checks? This is starting to look grim.
