Sugar

So this is going to sound whack but has anyone noticed a decline in the sweetness of sugar? The last two batches of cookies definitely tasted less sweet yet my ingredients, amounts and brands didn’t change. Is it being processed differently? I tested domino next to GV and there really wasn’t much difference. I figured since we are the sugar producing state maybe someone would know.

Some good news for a change

From an email from the city.

Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals Upholds City Council’s N-STR Ordinance and Platform Verification

NEW ORLEANS - The New Orleans City Council applauds the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals for upholding the City’s regulations for non-commercial short-term rentals (“NSTRs”) and the City’s platform verification system that requires platforms to verify that listings are properly permitted through the City before booking for all types of short-term rentals (“STRs”). This ruling from the Fifth Circuit confirms the ruling from the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, which dismissed all but one count in September 2025.

In 2025, Airbnb and five individual plaintiffs filed an 11-count complaint, alleging that the City’s regulations violated Due Process, the Takings Clause, the Fourth Amendment, the First Amendment, and related state constitutional law. The plaintiffs also alleged violations of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act – a federal statute that shields internet service providers from liability as a result of content created and posted by third-party users.

In its ruling, the Court did not recognize any fundamental right to short-term rental of properties. It also upheld the City’s right to regulate STR booking transactions by platforms, and STR uses by property owners. The Court noted, "The 2023 Ordinance may have frustrated the Hosts’ ambitions to operate short-term rentals. But it did not extinguish their ability to rent entirely—they can still rent long term. And if the Hosts expected the City never to regulate residentially zoned property, that expectation was unreasonable." (Bodin v. City of New Orleans, No. 25-30524, slip op. at 8 (5th Cir. Aug. 5, 2026))

In 2022, the then-existing NSTR regulations were overturned in federal court. Following the 2022 ruling, the City Council drafted and passed new regulations to address the concerns of the Court. Those regulations have been routinely upheld in the appeals process.

In 2024, the City Council passed a platform verification ordinance, which required platforms to verify that listings were properly permitted.

Flock vs Axon amped surveillance

Hopefully this is allowed. It is a substance by Leah who has 20 years in Intelligence and is a corporate intelligence CEO. You can see her bio on her substack. She talks about a taser firm that is now far more. Since we have Flock here and the state loons want more I thought this might be of interest.

Mini rant

Yo’ NOPD. If ya gunna put out missing persons alerts perhaps include more than name, age and race. I don’t know Emily so since I don’t have a proper description AND your link takes me to a general most wanted page am I just to grab any white 47 looking woman off da street and turn her in???? I mean in all seriousness these alerts are worthless UNLESS you personally know the missing person/s. A photo would be fab. In fact does just about everyone have a smart phone these days?? Ok I’m done.

Factual Recall Petition

This is from a post in the r/Louisiana subreddit. If not allowed please let me know proper way to share.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Louisiana/s/5Mbor728ss

Louisiana residents: A recall petition has been filed against Gov. Jeff Landry. Here's what you need to know to participate.

A recall petition against Governor Jeff Landry was officially filed with the Louisiana Secretary of State's office on May 4, 2026. The effort is being led by Baton Rouge community advocate Marian Gbaiwon Hills and Katilyn P. Stepter. The stated reason: Landry's "pattern of actions and statements that undermine fair representation, misalign priorities away from community needs, and emphasize punishment over meaningful solutions."

This comes days after Landry suspended Louisiana's U.S. House primary elections, which triggered a wave of backlash across the state.

**What's needed to make this happen:**

Under Louisiana law, organizers have 180 days (deadline: October 31, 2026) to collect signatures from at least 20% of active registered voters. That's 500,884 valid signatures out of 2,504,416 active voters statewide. Every parish is included.

**HOW TO SIGN:**

This is critical: **signatures must be in person and handwritten. There is no valid online link.** If someone sends you a "recall link," that does not count and may be a scam.

To find signing events near you:

* Follow Marian Gbaiwon Hills on Facebook for updated locations and times

* A known signature collection location is **Geaux Create Studios, 2320 Drusilla Lane, Suite F, Baton Rouge**

* Bring a valid photo ID or use the **LA Wallet app**

Organizers are continuing to announce new signing locations across the state. Check local news and their social media for updates in your parish.

**Is this realistic?**

Political analysts note this is a very high bar. No statewide recall effort in Louisiana history has ever succeeded in triggering a recall election. Past recall efforts against Blanco, Jindal, and Bel Edwards all failed to reach the signature threshold. But the window is open, the petition is real, and every signature counts toward putting pressure on elected officials regardless of outcome.

**If you support this effort, share this post on Facebook, Nextdoor, and in local Louisiana groups.** The clock is ticking. And bring all your friends with you to sign

**Important note before posting:** Signing locations beyond the Geaux Create Studios address are still being announced. I'd recommend checking the organizers' Facebook page or local news (WWLTV, WBRZ, KATC) for the most current info before you go in person. Don't want anyone making a wasted trip.

Here are the URLs again, with what each one is for.

* Louisiana Secretary of State recall rules page: [https://www.sos.la.gov/ElectionsAndVoting/FindPublicOfficials/RecallAnElectedOfficial/Pages/default.aspx\](https://www.sos.la.gov/ElectionsAndVoting/FindPublicOfficials/RecallAnElectedOfficial/Pages/default.aspx) — this is the official state page explaining how recall petitions work, including the general process and requirements.

* WBRZ’s report on the recall filing: [https://www.wbrz.com/news/recall-petition-filed-for-governor-jeff-landry/\](https://www.wbrz.com/news/recall-petition-filed-for-governor-jeff-landry/) — this is a news article covering the filing against Gov. Jeff Landry and naming the organizers.

* Facebook post about the recall petition: [https://www.facebook.com/cynthia.young.225/posts/governor-jeff-landry-recall-petition-doneill-be-leading-an-effort-to-get-more-s\](https://www.facebook.com/cynthia.young.225/posts/governor-jeff-landry-recall-petition-doneill-be-leading-an-effort-to-get-more-s) — this appears to be a social post promoting the recall effort and stating that signatures are being collected. A couple of other official/state URLs that may help:

* Louisiana Secretary of State elections hub: [https://www.sos.la.gov/electionsandvoting/\](https://www.sos.la.gov/electionsandvoting/) — this is the broader elections page and a good starting point for official voter information.

* Louisiana Secretary of State public officials page: [https://www.sos.la.gov/ElectionsAndVoting/FindPublicOfficials/\](https://www.sos.la.gov/ElectionsAndVoting/FindPublicOfficials/) — this is the directory area that includes the recall section and elected-official lookup tools.

One important caveat: the Facebook URL I found is the post itself, not necessarily the main organizer page, so it’s useful for sharing but may not be the best “home page” for ongoing updates. If you can find better links, let me know; I will edit them in.

Edit:
