Gun classes
My sister took a free gun safety/usage course through the sheriff's office in her county, and I'm wondering if Gainesville offers something similar.
City Officials Need to Stop Treating City Projects like Personal Pet Projects
"'The city is looking at ways to turn the building into a community space, like a brewery or bike shop,' [Eastman] added."
It's disturbing to me that the city commissioner who happens to like drinking beer and biking with his buds wants to build a bike shop or brewery on a sacred spring, when he already paved over an undeveloped park because him and his bros have a goal of biking all the parks of Gainesville. And in addition, a worker from Wild Spaces Public Places built a pickleball court at Tom Petty Park which required cutting down trees.. because he wanted a pickleball court he could play at after retiring.
The personal nature of these projects disturbs me. I just feel like nature is being destroyed enough without our local officials cutting down more trees at best, and potentially polluting a spring at worst, just to put their name on a project or have fun with their buds. I mean, does the city even have scientists and hydrologists working with them on this springs project? I really fucking hope so. I don't think Eastman has any kind of ecological or environmental education. (Looked it up- he majored in political science).
Eastman needs to be stopped from paving over another Gainesville park.
When I hear "bike shop" I am really fucking uncomfortable - bike shops often come with a fuckload of tires, greasy metal parts, old tires, different oils- this type of hazardous material does not need to be existing next to a spring. Plus drunk people get rowdy which would disturb the wildlife. Drunk people also toss cigarettes and plastic cups. I'm tired of these projects being human-focused only and completely disregarding the natural and wildlife impact.
In addition, for anyone who has driven in that area at night- it is ideal for wildlife because it's actually dark and doesn't have tons of traffic at night- having a rowdy pub crowd would change that, and in addition the road like I said is dark, because it contains a nature refuge, and is one of the only places in Gainesville at night where you can still see a dark sky in an un-light-polluted atmosphere, and adding more lights to a venue, and having more cars would also ruin that. In addition, it's not safe to people to have drunk drivers navigating a dark and winding back road, one in which I might add people sometimes drive 80-100 miles an hour, which I've notified the police of in the past, but we all know police barely respond lately to traffic violations.
It's like the people in charge around here are in a different reality than the people who actually live in and enjoy this place.
Beef
Does anyone know a safe place to continue to buy beef, in order to avoid the beef coming from undisclosed other countries due to trump? Would the farmers market be pretty much it? And if so, what farmers? Thanks
