The APA virtual conference

Anyone else trying to do the virtual APA conference today (and tomorrow)? There's major tech issues that's preventing people from logging on (according to an email auto-reply to the conference folks).

Age old question

Best EHR for the most reasonable prices?

I may be reaching for the stars here but here goes: TO ALL THE PRIVATE PRACTICE THERAPISTS. Huge thank you for sharing any details you choose.

I am a solo LLC private practice psychologist who has used Simple Practice since 2019 but they recently upped my monthly subscription price to around $104/month.

With Simple Practice, there's been talk of integrating Artificial Intelligence (if they haven't already) into their business model. I'm uncomfortable with that and also annoyed with the price increase without warning... So...

  1. What type of EMR program do you use?

  2. How much do you pay per month?

  3. Does it include Telehealth in your monthly subscription?

  4. Does it involve Artificial Intelligence and if so, can you "opt out."

  5. Do you feel you are getting your "money's worth" and why/why not?

  6. Do you use a billing service within the EHR or process the insurance claims yourself?

I've heard of the following when trying to research them but they all want you to "sign up" for a free trial before they'll share anything price related (so annoying!)....

My list so far...

SimplePractice ($29-$99/mo. plus annual $20 fee for AMA CPT code access, fees for processing insurance start at $.25 per claim, depending on your plan, and online payment processing fees are 3.15% + $0.30 for each successful transaction)

Therapy Notes

Valant

Theranest

ICANotes

OmniMD

Welligent

Tebra(KaeroBH)

NextGen BH

CareLogic

Opus EHR

Credible BH

TLDR: what is the cost of your monthly subscription EHR plan, does it include Telehealth, A.I., and insurance billing, are you satisfied with your EHR, why or why not?

Thoughts on becoming a prescribing psychologist?

I've been a licensed Clinical Psychologist for 16 years working mostly with mood disorders, OCD, ADHD (testing and treatment), as well as executive roles in college counseling centers so I've actually administratively supervised psychiatrists, PMHNPs, and PAs (at college/university student health centers). I'm seriously considering applying for an MS in Clinical Psychopharmacology program in order to eventually apply for prescriptive authority in Illinois. What are your thoughts about this kind of program/training especially for psychiatrists out there? Right now there are 7 states and the US military that allow clinical psychologists to prescribe. Below are the requirements for Illinois.

  • Undergraduate Prerequisites: Completion of seven specific biomedical courses, including medical terminology, chemistry/biochemistry, human anatomy, and human physiology.
  • Advanced Coursework: 60 credit hours of advanced coursework in psychopharmacology, culminating in a Master's degree in Clinical Psychopharmacology.
  • Clinical Training: A 14-month, full-time supervised clinical training program (at least 1,620 hours) with rotations in internal medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry, and other medical specialties.
  • Examination: Passing the national Psychopharmacology Examination for Psychologists (PEP)

Any experiences with the National Register for Health Service Psychologits in the USA?

I am a clinical psychologist licensed in 2 states currently. I was an HSP member when I moved to the 2nd state (in order to expedite my licensure in state 2. Since then, I let my HSP membership lapse (but not my licensure, those have stayed current of course but now it's CEU time). I am wondering if the HSP membership late fees and reinstatement fees PLUS the regular membership fees (all totaling close to $600 is worth it)... which is why I wanted to ask this group "What has been your experiences as an HSP member? Have you found membership helpful (for things like consultations, practice management, getting CEUs for licensure, moving states, etc) and why or why not? Thanks!
