I posted 11 days ago with an ambitious project to finish a coif by the end of September. I have made considerable progress, however, I’ve made some mistakes and need advice.

First, I foolishly ordered the Chainmail Joe kit thinking it would be 4 pounds of the same size rings.

Then, I didn’t realize I was using 16 SWG 1/4” ID rings until after I had made a 6 triangle crown piece. I finally figured that out after trying it on my friend with a small head and it was still too tight. Six hour fix and now it fits with 8 triangles.

Now, I have about a third of the bag left, so I start looking on Amazon for more rings….There aren’t any listings with the same 1/4” ID nor are there any on the CMJ site.

My question now is, Could I use 18SWG to finish the neck part or will the gauge difference be too noticeable?

I really would love to acquire a coif with this specific pattern. As you can see, I found it via eBay (while looking for inspo) but the seller used an AI altered image to turn the model into a mannequin. I’m wary of this plus the price and that it’s shipping from India…

I am crafty all around, so the thought of making it is not off-putting. I just fear it would cost more to make rather than pay for someone else to do it. My goal is to have it be done in time for my birthday at the end of September.

So really, I have 2 main questions: Where could I find this/commission someone? If I make this, what is the best way to go about it?
