Something bizarre happened

and I am just genuinely confused because this is the first time this ever happened.

Basically I have a fic with 200k words published, and most of the comments are positive. Then these past few weeks came 1 person, who from the very early chapters is obvious they don’t like the fic. But this person went on to read all 200k words, all the chapters — and I know because they leave very specific insults to almost every chapter that can only be done if they actually read the chapter.

I never really engaged with this person except on 1 of the early chapters where 1 comment was actually useful, because it questioned a plot choice I made. So I politely explained my choice, and thanked them for reading. That was the only time I have ever engaged with them.

I’m tbh much more confused than anything else, because this just feels so bizarre. Like, reading 200k words in itself is already a lot, but to read it just to take the time to pick something specific about the chapter to berate… like, why would you do that? Really just feels like a waste of time for me.

Oh well. I’m wondering if anyone else had the same experience. This isn’t really affecting me negatively per se, I just find it fascinating and am wondering if someone can give me some insight on this psychology lol.

Thanks in advance!

TLDR someone reads a 200k words fic of mine just to comment specific insult on almost every chapter and I’m fascinated by this behaviour.
