Introducing OpenTricky, a native PC port of SSX Tricky
Hey all,
I've been working on this for a while and it's finally in a state where other people can try it. OpenTricky runs the Xbox version of SSX Tricky natively on Windows. It's not an emulator: the game's code is recompiled to run on PC (thanks to sp00nznet's xboxrecomp), and only the graphics, sound and input are rewritten on top of Direct3D 11.
What's in it
- It finally looks like the console version again. The fog, sun lens flares, terrain haze and proper colours are back, the Uberboard isn't black anymore, and the race intros play all the way through.
- High frame rates (120, 144, 240 or uncapped). The game logic still runs at 60 like on the console, and the extra frames are interpolated, so physics and AI are untouched but everything feels super smooth.
- Real ultrawide support (21:9 and 32:9). You actually see more of the mountain instead of a stretched image.
- Optional extras: SMAA, soft shadows, longer draw distance.
- A small launcher in the style of the game menus, with keyboard and controller remapping. The sound crackling and the freeze on the EA logo are fixed too.
What you need: your own copy of the game (Xbox, USA) as an .iso. The download only contains the exe, no game files, so please don't ask for ISOs.
Fair warning, this is an early unstable build. There's a rare crash in the race intro, the HUD is still stretched in ultrawide, there's a quick flash when you respawn, and no VSync option yet. Everything is listed in the README with workarounds. If something breaks, a bug report with the log file helps a lot.
Next up: a proper ultrawide HUD, VSync, PlayStation controller support, more performance work, and I'm also poking at online play.

Big thanks to MatiasRiveraC for the original port, sp00nznet for xboxrecomp, and the xemu folks, whose work helped a ton with getting the rendering right.
