New to me Singer 401a troubleshooting
Hi, new to sewing and found this machine on fb marketplace for cheap. I got a new pedal to replace the button pedal and have oiled and greased where the manual instructed me to.
I'm looking for some pointers for resolving the following problems:
The machine won't run at slow speeds and often won't run just by pressing the pedal. The machine makes a buzzing sound, then I need to turn the handwheel to get the motor going and then it'll run. But if I stop pressing on the pedal, I'll need to turn the handwheel to get it going again. It will often stop making the buzzing sound and the pedal just won't work until I turn the handwheel a bit. Once it gets going at a high speed it'll work wonderfully, but if I slow it down it will just stop.
Strange rattling sound coming from the top while the machine is running
Faint smell of burning rubber while the machine is running
I imagine all these are related. I attached a video to this post. Thanks in advance!
