Any ideas on what would make a young wether wobbly on his feet?

I have a wether just over a year old who's sometimes eating and walking around fine, sometimes lays down and has trouble getting back up wobbling around and one time falling over. This started last night. He was shorn recently and it's been rainy and a little chilly for the time of year (I'm in rural Ireland) but I don't think it's cold enough for him to be hypothermic. He seems to be urinating ok and definitely no blood in his urine, so I don't think it's urinary calculi. I've been in touch with the vet and I'm going to bring in a fecal sample, but around here these issues are not treated with much urgency or seriousness. The vet says they don't know and just wait and see, but he was a bottle lamb that I'm very emotionally attached to so I want to do everything I can for him.
