James Franklin was the issue-NOT Allar and the Steelers are proving that

Drew came to Penn state as a 5 star recruit. He had all the potential in the world to be something amazing (and he still does) but James Franklin stunted his growth and after only a few months with the Steelers- we see SUCH IMPROVEMENT in his game.

Yes. He played 1 preseason game against 4th string defense blah blah blah. But if you spent the last 4 heats watching him at PSU- you would know how huge this is. The kid was beyond indecisive, had lead feet and had the most scattered mind. He couldn’t lock in during games.

BUT NOW I see the opposite. He’s confident and he’s grown into the QB position. I’m in no way saying he’s 1st string ready. What I am saying tho is that if he keeps progressing at this rate, the Steelers have a lot of potential in the upcoming years. Should he have been able to do this while in college? Yes, but he was under the influence of a terrible coach a coach, who only cared about publicity how he looked, and how Penn State looked. Yes, that is important but you have to need to care about the game making a smart place, smart decisions and owning up and taking responsibility when needed. Franklin destroyed all of his quarterbacks, except McSorley. And guess what Allar was one of the culprits. His confidence and ability to make a smart play completely deteriorated. Now I see a confident growing football player that in a few years will be a great asset.

I’m so happy that we have him on a roster now and if need be, we can put them in and not worry as much as we were prior to seeing him play pre-season

Drew Allar!

Drew had a phenomenal game last night! He really came out on the field and showed the world that he’s making changes and he wants to be a great player.

I had 3 years w Drew at Penn State. I understand that a huge part of it was James Franklin just being a PR focused coach but Allar has some habits. The habits are hard to shake. Especially the habit of freezing under pressure and making a decision quickly. It’s hard to rewire your brain to be able to stay calm under that pressure and make a smart decision to either run the ball or throw it. If something went wrong in the play he’s never had that ability. He stands there panicking inching backwards until he loses yards and gets sacked or he throws it to no one on the sideline. It’s like he has invisible friends over there. I’m happy that he did well last night! I really am happy for the kid, but I don’t think we should get our hopes up quite yet

The Steelers have already proven that they can change Allar for the better and I’m excited to see who he is as a player in the future under better coaching. Taking him to the Steelers with the right choice but he’s got a lot of work ahead of him. The bench needs to be his friend so he can keep learning.
