Help request American football crash course

This is my first time posting on Reddit (like at all lmao) and I come humbly requesting help with understanding your sport because I’ve got a problem:
So my little brother (15) has recently started playing american football competitively and I, his older sister, unfortunately know nothing abt it like nothing nothing which is a shame because I would really like to understand what’s happening during his games (at least on a surface level) so I can talk abt them with him properly.
I can tell he wants to talk with me about it but stops when he sees that I can’t follow along and he drops the topic which makes me feel like a bad sibling because I am a huge motorsports fan so I tell him about the kart races I compete in all the time and he can follow along really well even without really knowing much about it so I desperately wish to return the favour. I have tried (emphasis on tried) to watch an NFL game hoping to understand more but now I feel like I understand even less than before :,)
Now I don’t need to become an overnight expert but if someone would be so kind and break down the basic rules and how his position works that would be awesome I’d be very grateful! I don’t exactly know how his position is called and googling didn’t help at all but he is one of the guys that catch the ball and then bolt really fast towards the end zone (look at me knowing a word) with it (I know two guys do that but idk if there’s a difference between which side they play on)
