Thank you for the overwhelming response during launch. We appreciate all of the feedback we’ve been receiving and we’re excited to unveil what’s in store for the upcoming months. Here’s an overview of our goals for updates each month moving forward.

Public Lobbies: 

We’re currently testing a public lobby browser, alongside improvements to the way friends can join a session.

Friends-only and invite-only games will remain available for players who want a more controlled experience.

Twitch Drops: 

More Twitch Drops are on the way for this weekend. Check our Discord for information firsthand as it's released. 

August:

Over the coming month, we’re planning two smaller content releases: a new batch of constructs and a separate vessel update.

September:

Our first major post-launch content update is planned for September. The Deep Layers update will add one new biome and several new enemies. 

October:

This update will open the third floor of the Outpost and introduce a new questline, alongside a new visual update to celebrate the season.

We’ll share smaller updates along the way as we continue to listen to your feedback. Stay tuned!

1. Can I play GRAIN ROT solo?

Yes. GRAIN ROT supports single-player, and the launch build includes difficulty balancing based on feedback from solo players and smaller groups.

GRAIN ROT is still designed around co-op chaos, so exploring alone will generally be more demanding than bringing a crew.

2. How many players can play together, and does everyone need a copy?

GRAIN ROT supports as many survivors as your setups can handle, but the game is currently balanced and best played with around four players in online co-op. Each player needs their own copy of the game.

3. How do lobbies, invites, and matchmaking work?

GRAIN ROT uses player-hosted Steam lobbies.

Players join through Steam invites or their Steam friends list. There is no public matchmaking. 

4. What happens when my vessel breaks? Do I lose everything?

A broken vessel does not necessarily end your run.

Your Living Spark escapes and remains with the crew while you search for another vessel to possess. Different vessels provide different ways to get back into the action.

If the entire crew is lost before extracting, anything that had not yet been brought back to the Outpost is lost. Progress and resources already secured during previous successful runs remain safe.

5. Do saves from the demo or pre-release playtest carry over?

The full release makes substantial changes to quests, balance, and progression, so we recommend beginning a new save for the intended launch experience.

Older demo and playtest saves may still load, but they are not the recommended way to begin a full playthrough. If you encounter quest or progression problems on an older save, please first check whether the problem also occurs on a fresh save.

6. Which platforms and controllers are supported?

GRAIN ROT is available on Windows PC through Steam. There are no plans for macOS or Linux support.

The launch version supports gamepads. 

GRAIN ROT is not currently Steam Deck Verified, so we cannot guarantee the experience on Steam Deck or other SteamOS devices at launch.

7. Will GRAIN ROT receive updates after launch?

GRAIN ROT launches as a complete full game.

Our immediate priority after release is launch stability, bug fixes, balance, and quality-of-life improvements based on player feedback. We have ideas for what could come later, but we will only announce new content or features once those plans are ready.

8. Where can I find teammates, report a bug, or get technical support?

Join the official GRAIN ROT Discord to find other Scrappies, follow announcements, and get help. Please head to the #roles channel to find access to these content specific channels:

When reporting a problem, please include:

• What happened and what you expected to happen
• Steps that reproduce it
• Whether you were playing solo, hosting, or joining
• A screenshot or short video where possible
• The approximate time it occurred
• Logs or save files when requested by the support team

Hey Scrappies! The GRAIN ROT demo will be coming down on July 12, 2026 11:59 PM EST and what a run it's been! Biggie would be so proud.

Together, wandering Sparks pushed the demo past 340,000 downloads, making it one of the most played demos during Steam Next Fest as well.

That's not a small thing, and it's not something we did alone. Everyone who dropkicked their friends in the Outpost, perished in explored the Deep Layers, and sent us feedback & bug reports along the way has helped shape this game into what it's becoming. Thank you so much for all the support!
