Carrot vs Stick Motivation

This is SUCH a big thing, that I've even considered refusing to work with someone if they're pre-social-transition.

Early transition folk often underestimate how much mental space transition takes.

Especially hormonally if they've recently started HRT. That unlocks more emotionally than we often expect.

Whilst we all want to be prepareddd and work on things before we feel we NEED to, it's an easier said than done kind of thing.

Curious to know your stories on this topic!

This is a reminder to show yourself compassion while training your voice 💖

One thing that's needed to feminise your voice?

SELF COMPASSION.

In short, treat yourself like you would a close friend.

Most people naturally want to practice some self-fl@gell@tion.

They punish themselves everytime they don't get the exact sound they want, and nothing kills motivation faster than that.

Judging yourself doesn't make things happen faster!

Always try to maintain a compassionate place where it's safe to mess up and to go at your own pace. 💖

"My voice is a woman's voice because it comes from a woman"

Keen to hear some perspectives on this!

I've seen a fair few people demonizing vocal training recently, saying to "accept your voice as it is and reject cis beauty standards"

I understand the frustration many of us have with beauty standards and what we "should" be doing etc. and I respect rejecting that.

Doing so doesn't erase the reality of getting daily misgendering because of it though, and that can be incredibly dysregulating.

My thoughts are the goal is happiness and comfort. If you can do that (and not feel like you're settling) without vocal training, that's amazing.

If you'd be disappointed and uncomfortable without doing it, then it's worth giving it a shot 🤷🏻‍♀️ the extremes aren't super helpful imo. Just live life in whatever way has the greatest chance of leading to greater happiness and fulfillment for you!

Curious to hear some other thoughts on this 🤔

How long does it take to feminise your voice?

This is how long it takes to feminise a voice.

**If you're consistently training, doing the right exercises, gathering feedback etc**

👉 6 months to become consciously competent (meaning it might take you a second, but you're able to achieve the voice you're wanting).

👉 2 years to become unconsciously competent. This happens when you've consciously corrected your voice so many times, that your new voice becomes your default.
