Hiking FLC
I recently came into possession of a bunch of surplus ACU molle stuff (Whatnot is a hell of a drug . . . ) and decided to make a hiking set up based mostly on nostalgia. I remember the mag pouches being a lot different in the early aughties than these but they seem to hold two magazines ok. Liked the other ones better though.
The first step was to dye them. I did two batches but left the second (with the pouches) in too long so they are a bit darker but that is ok, less uniform is better right?
The buttpack holds my hammock sleep system (overquilt, underquilt, and tarp included) while the 200rd saw pack holds my random stuff. Rest is pretty straight forward, I intentionally left space above the mag pouches for clearance. I also added the IFAK pouch to the hydration carrier to carry things related to hydration like the sawyer squeeze, 3L squeeze bladder, cleaning syringe, ect.
Went hiking with it last weekend and it performed reasonably well, though it was just a short 5 mile hike (called it short due to the heat).
Thoughts?
EDIT: To clarify, that is an underquilt not a woobie. It doesn't actually come into contact with my body when sleeping, is water resistant, and performs its job even were it to be wet. It would also dry fast. To be on the safe side I also carry an emergency bivy because of 1 being 0. So while I thank people for their concern, it is not an issue that it is not in a waterproof sack or compression sack. It will be fine.
