Surgery fear tips
Looking for tips to help overcome surgery fear. I am an active 41m with 2 small kids. I have been dealing with chronic mid back pain (just below scapula) for years + numbness in both my feet and on and off numbness in my right hand. I have had 3 opinions and all are recommending surgery. 2 highly recommended surgeons are recommending 2 level disc replacement. I also suffer from left hip pain that is a separate issue. I have been in PT for over a year and tried other conservative treatments. I’m just not getting better. Yet, I have so much fear around spine surgery I just cannot get myself to take the leap and book the surgery. I have a strong fear I am going to come out of surgery worse or with new pain. My mind constantly spins thinking about surgery and the pros and cons. But just cannot come to a decision. My brother passed away unexpectedly in March and this has also made my decision harder. I don’t want my family to suffer any more if I was to have issues coming out of surgery. Any tips about overcoming these fears? Any positive surgery reports with symptoms or imaging similar to mine? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
