Ceremony Announces to Recognize Installation of New Wrought Iron Fence at Historic Putnam Hill Park

Greenwich Free Press

oin the Town of Greenwich, the Greenwich Parks & Recreation Department, and the Horseneck Daughters of the American Revolution for a ceremony recognizing the installation of a new wrought iron fence at historic Putnam Hill Park.

The previous fence had deteriorated over time, with damaged and missing spikes making repair no longer feasible. The new fence represents a partnership effort to preserve and enhance one of Greenwich's most important historic sites.

Putnam Hill Park, located at the corner of East Putnam Avenue and Old Church Road, was dedicated by the Town of Greenwich in 1898 to commemorate General Israel Putnam's daring escape from British forces in 1779. The park is also home to a monument installed by the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1900, a marker commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Marquis de Lafayette's 1824 visit to Greenwich, and a Liberty Tree planted in recognition of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Frequently visited by residents, students, and visitors, Putnam Hill Park serves as a lasting reminder of Greenwich's Revolutionary War history. This improvement is part of the Town's ongoing efforts to preserve and celebrate our shared heritage as America continues to celebrate its 250th anniversary.
