The re-maiden flight of my 70mm F18 was a success

I actually flew it at the same field as my crash yesterday and almost had a repeat. I learned that field is just hard to fly in the evening. All I could see was a silhouette of the plane for 3/4 of the pattern. I only flew 2 laps and landed it for the day.

Today I went and flew at a local spot after work. The sun was directly behind me and made keeping orientation easier.

I bought and built a new plane, but I didn’t make any major changes from the first one. I only had to move the battery back about half an inch. I also turned up my aileron and elevator rates 10%. I definitely had the Gyro gain way too high in the first flight. I think it was about 45%. Today I had wing rock at 35% and dialed it down to 28%.

The F18 is a lot more jet than my viper 70 it needs what feels like twice the distance to take off and all the throttle. Once in the air and moving its more responsive and needs a good bit more speed. It took me a few flights to get comfortable but I’m really liking it.

70mm f18 maiden flight crash.

My first attempt at flying a fighter jet ended in disaster. The flight got off to a bad start I almost aborted as soon as it lifted off. It felt nose heavy and I used almost full back elevator just to rotate. Fought it the entire flight and I lost orientation making my 3rd turn. I didn’t see it roll over and pulled back right into the ground. There was not much left to rebuild but I will get another and try again.

I flew today

Good day of flying today. I did 14 flights on 3 different models and brought them all home in one piece. I brought a viper 70mm a carbon cub s2 and an xl power 550.
