What is this?

My mother died about 5 years ago and I inherited these two little boxes amongst her things. I thought they were maybe myrrh but upon looking at them and comparing with other images, I don’t think either box is myrrh. When using charcoal, I nearly choked with how sticky and thick the smoke was from the darker material. It smelled sweet, slightly amber and vanilla. The lighter material is more arid, more like what I think myrrh smells like, resin and slightly sweet.

When I break them apart they sort of have the consistency of hard brown sugar. I’m worried that maybe I have something toxic or potentially illicit. I’d at least like to know what these things are. Any help??
