Need help finalising a laptop for engineering college — is ASUS Vivobook 16 the right pick?

Hey everyone, I am from India

I'm joining a 4-year B.Tech Marine Engineering programme this July and need to buy a laptop before college starts. My institute requires a built-in LAN port (or a USB to RJ45 adapter works too).

What I'll actually be using the laptop for (based on my syllabus):

  • MS Office notes, assignments, presentations

  • Basic computer science and programming (beginner level, Semester 2-3 only)

  • Computational Mathematics (Sem 3)

  • PLC & Microprocessor lab work (Sem 4)

  • Engineering drawing (basic, Sem 2)

  • Simulator lab (Sem 7)

  • General internet browsing, lecture notes, PDFs

What I will NOT need:

  • AutoCAD, MATLAB, SolidWorks or any heavy engineering software

  • Video editing or graphic design

  • Gaming

So essentially this is a productivity and light use laptop for 4 years nothing demanding at all.

My requirements:

  • Budget: up to ₹70,000

  • 16GB RAM minimum

  • 512GB SSD minimum (open to 1TB)

Good battery life -

  • Should last comfortably 2-3 years after college too for light work

  • Windows 11

  • Connects well with Samsung phones via Link to Windows

Laptop I'm currently considering:

ASUS Vivobook 16 (2025) Intel Core Ultra 5 225H, 16GB DDR5, 512GB SSD (~₹67,000)

Planning to pair it with a USB to RJ45 adapter for the LAN port requirement.

Regarding eyesight in tmi for btech

I have received an email from Tolani maritime Institute regarding admission to the B.Tech program, and I am required to submit my medical report within three days. I am concerned about my eyesight, which is 6/12. I would like to know whether I can still join the institute if I submit the medical report with this eyesight condition, and whether it would be possible to improve my eyesight later during my degree. Additionally, it would be helpful if you could provide me with the contact numbers of tmi so that I can contact them and clarify this matter.
