PAXaus Parking @ MCEC. Key fobs not working.

Hi folks! Hope everyone had the best time over the weekend. I’m so exhausted but so grateful for another amazing year.

This question is a strange one, but I’ve had a friend confirm he had the same issues.

My car keys wouldn’t work with the buttons to unlock/lock my car. It was so strange. Worked fine when I left the car park. Then, the same thing happened on Sunday.

I didn’t really think anything of it until me mate said his key fob wasn’t working at all. Then, when he got home, everything was fine.

Did anyone else experience issues locking their vehicles in the MCEC Carpark?

Backup iCloud Photos to NAS + Recycle Bin

For years I have used a Docker Container called icloudpd to download and backup my iCloud Photos to my NAS. The process I built has worked well for me so far.

Now, my Library has surpassed 4TB and I have to pay for the 6TB iCloud Data plan to ensure I am covered with storage.

In an effort to cull my library down, and with over 100k items, I searched for tools to assist in the process. There are many out there, including u/PlumSalty3957's Cully and u/DrWrecker's This Time Last Year App plus many other services that have AI processing to automatically find like for like images to delete the fat from your library.

However, for my setup, I use an Archive album that icloudpd picks up and downloads to a folder on my NAS that I can then delete after a sync. It will delete the items from my Library on iCloud, delete them from my Library folder on my NAS, but maintain them in my Archive folder on the NAS. This allows me to use a personal cloud service like Immich to make the Archive folder available via a separate App.

It all works well for me, yet all these amazing apps do not allow for a quarantine to an iCloud Album for further review. They tend to simply delete them and let the Recently Deleted album act as the quarantine.

So, to get around this fact, I used Claude to help build me a process that also creates a Recycle Bin on my NAS that mirrors the 30 day perm delete process.

What this enables me to do now is run through a cull process, delete them on my iPhone or iPad as I chill on the couch in the evening and then let my icloudpd ETL to move the items on my NAS to a Recycle Bin overnight so I can manually copy them over to my Archive folder to keep the images.

As a proof of concept it works. It might need some further tweaks, but thought it be good to share the process with anyone that has the same problem as me.

For details on this, I also created a Documentation page linked via my photography portfolio here: https://xanderphoto.au/icloud-nas-sync-with-recycle-bin/

Happy Culling!
