She’s back and better than ever!

One week after nearly losing our girl to an Addison’s Disease crisis she is back to her formidable, protective self, even though the doesn’t have pants because the nurses took them 😂

Addison’s Disease: update

Update for my original post:

We have our girl back home, after a very scary 48 hours. She was so close to the edge but she fought hard and made it. She ended up needing a plasma transfusion. We have pet insurance so hopefully they come through to help with some of the cost.

We will be closely monitoring her and following up with her primary immediately. The vet and techs were absolutely incredible and I am so grateful for them. She will have to have her electrolytes checked tomorrow and a week from now, and monthly when she gets her shot. Lots of weird shave spots and a daily med for life, but she’s still here with us. ♥️

Addison’s Disease.

Update 6/29: she is back home!! She is very tired and has lots of weird shave spots but we’re on the mend. ❤️‍🩹 We will be closely monitoring her and following up with her primary immediately. She has to have her electrolytes checked tomorrow and a week from now, and her meds daily for life. Thank you to everyone who sent good vibes, love, and prayers. This has been a terrifying experience, but the vet and techs were amazing.

Original post:

Last night our girl went into Addisonian Crisis and got diagnosed with Addison’s Disease. The veterinarians at our ER were incredible and diagnosed her within a couple hours while trying to stabilize her. We were on a road trip and her amazing sitter let us know she wasn’t acting herself so we came back early and immediately took her.

She was knocking on heaven’s door when we arrived, having low grade seizures and unable to walk. It progressed so quickly. We were still not out of the woods and had to leave her overnight, but when we left her blood pressure had increased from 15 to 70 (it needs to be 120) and her potassium had lowered to a safe level. They called us at 4am that they needed to do a plasma transfusion.

Please send her good vibes, she is the most loving, protective, perfect girl and this is so hard. She is only 4. I now know prevalence in pyr’s is around 9% and I had never heard of it before. Apparently it’s called, “The Great Pretender” because it mimics many other illnesses.
