VFX performance

Hello guys,

Can you all help me with ssd related doubt

I have one gen3 ssd and one gen4 ssd

I have windows and my softwares like Nuke, Resolve and fusion installed in gen4 ssd, and I store my media in gen3 ssd, and cache is default to gen4 c drive, is this setup okay or should I change anything?

Neat Video vs Resolve NR

Hello Everyone,

Hope everyone is doing well, I am into vfx for few months now, working on shots, tracking as well as paint prep or compositing work, I have Davinci Resolve Studio, so I just wanted to know that should I buy Neat video or Resolve Noise Reduction is good.

How close is Resolve if compared to Neat Video. is it worth buying if I have Resolve Studio.

What do you all think.

VFX workflow

Hello everyone,

I am learning vfx for sometime and trying to better my work,

I can't relocate so I am looking to work as freelancer or work from home right now

Softwares I use are

Davinci Resolve for Denoising and converting footage to exr

Nuke or fusion for cleanup or compositing

Mocha pro and syntheyes for Tracking

I want to know from all vfx artists what should I look for and how to get better

For example: Is Neat video worth it if I have Davinci Resolve Studio

Are there some courses, specially in budget inside fxphd or other courses that teach workflow from start to end

Also there is shortage of footages as ActionVFX free footage give Rec.709 baked in them untill we pay for 4k raw footage, where can I get best footages to create some advanced showreel

Also I read Digital compositing for Film and Video by Steve Wrights, are there other books that I should specially look into

Specially for working as freelancer or work from home

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks in advance to everyone

Footages

Hello everyone,

I am learning vfx, paint prep and tracking for sometime now and created around 10 different shots, I am using Actionvfx free practice footage all the time, but now I was researching and thinking that Action vfx free footage has Rec.709 baked in them untill we pay for subscription to get 4k log footages.

I know we can convert them to linear exr formats using softwares like Davinci resolve but we can't recover details which are already loss after it was converted to Rec.709

I want to create some advanced showreel so I want some raw camera footage to properly work on and understand real pipeline flow instead of using baked Rec.709 footage and converting to linear

Can you all please help me out here, Am I right here or should I use Action Vfx footages.

How much difference it makes if we use camera raw plates instead for professional showreel

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks in advance

Projection Failure

Hello everyone,

Hope everyone is doing fine,

I am working on this shot, what I want to do is remove man and keep the background. So I am trying camera tracking and projection, card seats on ground and I projected from single framehold but after few frames I get this tearing, how can I properly handle this shot for cleanup
Any suggestions would be appreciated, I am also attaching link for this shot from Action VFX

Camera Tracking

Hello everyone,

Can you all please let me know how should I handle track this shot in nuke and build geometry or should I use blender.

I tried nuke auto tracka, but when I create point cloud for train on left it looks like 2 layers of it created, one is straight and one is little tilted why is that, and when I place card over any of it, its not sticking properly even points I see are sliding and solve error was 0.6, I drew mask on man moving and on sky as well before track

How can I get it done and place geometry over it properly.

Sorry if this looks silly but I am beginner so need some workflow of how to tackle this kind of shot

Tracking

I am learning vfx for sometime and now able to tackle some simple shots, but for tracking mostly for camera tracking should I rely on nuke or should I learn blender, and I also have fusion studio

Is fusion studio auto track better than nuke, and should I learn blender Also I want to learn tracking for simple as well as complex shots which have fast movement and motion blur

For Note: I know syntheyes is better of all of them but I can't go for paid software for now, and also I am using nuke nc

Thanks in advance

Footage

Hello everyone,

Hope everyone having great day, As I am new in vfx, I am learning for sometime, I want to create my showreel but for showreel I want quality footages or clips, for just practice I was using Actionvfx practice library but as there files are prores 422 hq mov files they are good but I think uncompressed exr will be best for show reel right as they are much better then prores

Also any suggestions or information regarding file formats for my showreel will be helpful

So can you all please suggest some good resources to get high quality exr 1080p to 4k footages, if free resources or some budget friendly resources are available

Thanks in advance 😊
