[Spoiler] I think Fables & Frontiers is starting to expose a problem that many have with Warframe's character writing lately
Trauma dumping is becoming a substitute for actually developing characters and the constant use of it is making us dislike the protoframes. Or even just becoming apathetic to them which is ironic considering that the Indifference/Man in the Wall feeds off of apathy.
The latest update is the most egregious example of this with Amir's trauma completely ruining the fun of what was supposed to be a legally distinct DnD game. Characters having trauma and character flaws are fine as narrative tools but the overuse of them causes characters to come off as covert narcissists where their emotional needs for validation and reassurance is extremely draining. Farming sympathy and empathy from the constant oppression olympics coming from all of the members of the Hex and the Devil's Triad leads to emotional fatigue causing you to care about the current roster of characters less and leaves less bandwidth for any new characters.
Not to mention that the protoframes have little to no character development or progression. In fact, with Amir we've seen character REGRESSION! It would be one thing if Amir realized that lashing out and weaponizing our own trauma as the Drifter (even if it was really Wally) was hurting the friends that he loves the most and that caused him to sincerely apologize and find a healthy coping mechanism. But instead we had a half-assed non-apology in our inbox and a quirky twist that Amir didn't even like FnF so that a legally distinct Magic: The Gathering joke could be made. This ruins any chance of fixing the current issues with a part two without a retcon.
So how do we fix this? First off, lay off the trauma for new characters for a good while. It's ok to have a flawless character like Master Chief for example. Second, we need more progression, resolution, and improvement in the characters. Amir could try meditation. Arthur could go on vacation and put someone else in charge. Trust falls with Quincy. Idk, I'm spitballing here. Next, this current kerfuffle with the FnF update and Amir needs to be fixed somehow otherwise most players will just loathe him. Lastly, more accurate marketing and advertisement going forward. At tennocon this was pitched as a legally distinct one shot DnD campaign with the members of the Hex. That is not exactly what we received.
