Sitters, I'm curious about your application process and timing

Hi! I'm new to the site and haven't done my first sit yet, but I've done lots of petsitting gigs through other platforms. I'm hoping to use THS as a way to explore new areas while remote working.

I'm curious what other sitters are doing when they apply for sits, whether you are full-time or part-time. Some questions I have:

  • How far in advance do you plan? Do you take last-minute gigs or prefer to know a few weeks or months out?
  • Do you try to be the first applicant? I've already lost out to a couple sits simply because I wasn't the first to apply.
  • How do you keep track of everything? Especially the full-time sitters. Do you keep a spreadsheet or planner or something? What works for you?

I'm trying to wrap my head around the logistics of it all, and would love to hear from experienced THS sitters.

Full-time sitters: how is your social life?

I’m new to THS and curious about living a more nomadic lifestyle now that I work fully remote. So far, I’ve enjoyed reading your posts about homeowners, sitters, and pets but I wanted to ask about one part of this lifestyle that I haven’t seen talked about yet, especially for full-time sitters.

How is your social life? I imagine that it would be really hard to form friendships if you are moving around every few weeks or even every few months. Do you choose locations where you already know people?

This is one thing that keeps me from taking the plunge into nomadic living. Community is very important to me, and I struggle to think of leaving the one I’ve made for myself and missing out at home, but also how hard it would be socially to be changing places all the time. Then again, I do have a pretty wide network of people across the country and could see this platform as a beautiful opportunity to spend some more time with my long-distance friends. Would love to hear more about how sitters go about this part of the THS life! Thanks in advance
