RTO Won- Relocating Family

RTO has won, and I am relocating my family. Absolutely devastating, but I need to be realistic.

I currently live in the Sierra’s on my dream property, raising my 2 kids, on acreage. No neighbors, birds singing, great recreation… all the good things in life.

However, after being hired fully remote, the EO from the top came down, and as you all know there’s a real chance we have to RTO 4 days a week. After really long and difficult discussions with my spouse, we will be moving closer to work.

Running the numbers; we could realistically reduce our household transportation and commute-related expenses by approximately $1,200–$1,500 per month. Plus, I am saving hundreds of hours per year in commuting time.

Taking it a bit further, we want to be strategic and find somewhere along the Amtrak/transit line so I can remove gas and parking from the equation (numbers referenced above).

Even if the RTO gets pushed back again until 2027, the same conversation will come back again and again. I am also cautiously optimistic regarding AB 1729, and if it passes I will be moving somewhere far, far away. With a new kid, however, it is a risky decision to go all in on 1729.

This pivot was unexpected, but I have to do what’s best for my family in anticipation of the 4 day transition back to Sacramento.

But hey…. Fire insurance should be easier to get?

Thanks for the rant, have a good rest of your week.
