Did the reference book inspire Brody's last resort?

When Brody is reading the book on sharks, he looks at pictures of people swimming with sharks, some shark bite photos, and a picture of a shark chewing on an O2 tank. Did that, and Hooper's comment ("There are compressed air. You mess around with them, and they're gonna explode!") recur to Brody during the climactic sinking of the Orca, and inspire his strategy of jamming the tank in the shark's mouth and then shooting it?

Would Quint have died if he went out alone?

If the town had hired Quint after the town hall meeting, and he'd gone out alone as originally intended, would he have died? Or would he have been smarter about the shark, and not so reckless to prove he knows his business better than the college boy with city hands?

ABMRS unreachable

Has anyone tried contacting the ABMRS recently?

I am starting a job search, and tried to verify my credentials on their website (I am 5 years into my 10 year MRSO cycle), and the website says no one by my name has been credentialed. Their Contact Us page contains a Captcha error and is unusable. Their phone number has been disconnected.

Any suggestions?

Can't see anyone else mentioned this anywhere, but if I missed it, I apologize...

In the bookstore scene, when Monk is searching for his own novels, my eye was caught by a copy of House of Leaves, by Mark Z Danielewski. It's on a shelf perpendicular to the viewer, but askant, so you still see it. I think this was deliberate.

House of Leaves is a layered novel, with multiple narratives intertwined and overlapped, much like the movie American Fiction. Monk Ellison's story is bith his novel, his script, and his life.

His published novel, The Haas Conundrum, is described as having "too many footnotes," another parallel to House of Leaves. While the word "haas" means rabbit or hare, it does *sound like* "house." But maybe that's too much of a stretch.

However, I do believe the similarities are meant to be recognized. What do you think?
