Bus Experience in Valencia

My husband and I spent 4 days in Valencia last week as part of our vacation in Spain. It quickly became our favorite city by far, and we were surprised how friendly the people are. Well, except for this one guy.

Our first time taking the bus in Valencia was not pleasant. It was stuffed to the max. I was 19 weeks pregnant with a visible bump (not that that should matter), so when one of the reserved seats opened up, I grabbed it. A few minutes later after some more people boarded, I heard someone say, "Ese asiento no es para usted." I looked up and met eyes with a very grumpy looking old man. I replied, "Estoy embarazada." I even repeated it in case he didn't understand me the first time. He looked down at my belly and then gave me the meanest scowl face, as if he didn't believe me. But after that he left me alone. Is this a normal experience to have in Valencia?

I was also sitting next to an older woman, who, when the bus stopped, screamed, "ABRE LA PUERTA!" to which the bus driver yelled back, "Deme tiempo!" So I'm wondering if maybe the older generation in Valencia is just really grumpy and/or disgruntled that their city is becoming more crowded and that's why they act this way.

Was hoping to get more insight from people living here as to what could be going on. I understand people may not love tourists, but there's no way that guy could have known for sure that I was a tourist. Other than him, the people were lovely!
