Orientation - ICU new grad

Calling all ICU PAs or any adjacent specialty: what was your orientation like? How long was it? What is a sufficient length?

I was offered a job and I’m very interested in it but want to make sure the orientation is adequate

The long wait is over. My hospital finally has generic Sugammadex!

Now pharmacy can pipe down some.

Anyone else been using this for a while now? Any anecdotal things to share?

Interview Advice - New Grad ICU

I am a new grad PA and I have an upcoming interview for an ICU position at a location I did 2 rotations with and I thought the team and I clicked really well, and I thought I performed above average too.

At the end of the day, I know I am a new grad and have so much to learn, but I want this job or any ICU job very much. So…

Any advice from any ICU PAs or anything adjacent on how best to prepare? I’ve been doing some practice interviews with AI and this seems to be helpful, but anything specific you would tell someone in my position? Thank you

Bad Clinical Rotation Reviews -Vent/reassurance

Hi everyone, I just finished up my last clinical rotation. I have not had any bad reviews previously, and I’ve done pretty well on my DOR’s, as well as all my second packrat.

Admittedly, I was pretty tired for my last rotation, and it was very difficult as it was anesthesia. Expectations were not clear, the environment was very hostile, and I was not given many opportunities to showcase my abilities (I was literally on eggshells the whole time, not to speak unless spoken to, excused from the OR because I mixed up LV walls on TEE, that sort of vibe).

My review was that I was a nice “kid”, but he expected much more from an end of the year PA student etc etc. i am just feeling very angry and evn having trouble accepting the criticism and i need to be studying for the pance but its just bothering me. Anyone have anything similar?

New Grad ICU Job - Opinions

Hello all. I am a new grad PA and currently applying to a Job for a new grad ICU PA at the hospital I did my ICU rotation. I got to know the team, nurses, workflow, and dynamic very well and have a good relationship with all the providers.

I love the team and know them well, and I am confident that they would train me very well. My only concern is a couple of things:

  1. How long are contracts typically? I am pretty sure I don’t want to stay in the area for the rest of my life but I would love to have my first job here and train here for a few years

  2. Here’s my main concern: I would feel so guilty leaving after a few years of training me, not sure if this is frowned upon or a big no no

I really love this team and would love to work here, but I don’t want to necessarily stay long term, but it’s also super hard to get a new grad ICU job so I feel like I have to accept

Opinions?

Opinions on this deal? Anyone have any PSA rifles? I’m trying to get a nice basic AR to last me for life because my state is banning them

Feel dumber at the end of clinical than I did when I started

I am finishing up clinicals and I am so defeated. I feel so stupid and incompetent, I don’t think I have what it takes.

I loved the ICU and it’s all I’ve ever wanted to do, and I did 2 rotations and lived it so much, I was so every day.

But, as I am on my last rotation, I just got a bad review even though I try so hard, and now I just feel like I’m crashing and burning, I genuinely forgetting things that’s inexcusable, rejected from every job and even fellowships I applied for. I just feel like a failure and am so discouraged. I know I just have to take and pass the Pance but I am just worried about how I will perform clinically.

It sucks to dedicate your whole being to something and it not feel like enough
