Cyber City by Tonecheer

This kit was so much fun! I did not get far on day one (Friday) as I was helping my mom, sister, and 2 of my adult kids work on their own kits. Finished it up today. It's very much a 3D kit, but only by way of structures and vehicles that you build. I did a LOT of edge painting. And then repainting on some as things went together.

I'm pretty sure I broke off a column when adding a part that I forgot, but I could never find it to fix it! Everything went together well, for the most part. A couple of pieces were a little too tight and needed adjusting. The lighting was hella confusing and I ended up with extras at the end, so those went back by the mirror at the top.

This kit was a perfect style for me. Mortise and tenon but reads completely 3D. Not a 2 hour build, but it did not take more than 9 total, I'd guess. I already have another cyber punk one on the way, and I'm lusting after the one by Mini Alley!!

Magic Night

Just finished this one today. Magic Night, probably from temu. It look me less than 4 hours. After the longer build from last week into this week, I really just wanted to do something quick today, so this fits the bill!

I did a little bit of edge painting and under shelf painting, but most things that would be seen from another angle were printed on both sides, so that was nice.

After letting it sit for a few minutes, I added the cotton ball smoke to the cauldron.

It's cute enough, and perfect for a quick build, but I'm finding I enjoy the 3D builds more. Not necessarily the small house kits, because I do like the book nook style, I just want more 3D elements and gluing stuff together!

Twilight Book Mall

I really enjoyed this one! Until it came to the lighting. Thankfully I found a YouTube build series on it. (Also the wires are white and almost white, so I had to mark the "gray" ones with a sharpie as I was testing the lights)

EVERYTHING was glued together. The only tabs were on the second floor to line it up with the first. I did modify it a bit. The original had caution signs in the street and out back, which I ditched. I also colored the yellow street lines gray. I did a bit of edge painting and rearranged a few of the pieces, just to make things more visible. I also added signs to the BACK of the signs. I wish I'd have thought of it before I cut them out and glued them together, but I just took the already finished signs to the copy machine. I think it helps to finish out the back of the build, because there are things to see around back!

When I opened this kit last week, I was searching for a quick build I could do in a day. This is not that kit. If you enjoy 3D elements, a moderate amount of paper crafting, and reading several steps ahead before you glue anything down, pick up Twilight Book Mall!

I NEED books with slavery!

Fantasy romance books with FMC being a slave.

She is a slave at the start of the series or becomes one in the course of the story.

She belongs to the MMC or to someone else.

I want heavy power imbalance and her suffering because of her life belonging to someone else and having no rights. The more suffering the better.

I don´t mind darker reads.

Also recs for older books are welcome, and encouraged.

Wisdom Rings, Abandoned

Wisdom Rings, modified to be an abandoned library, slowly being overtaken by nature.

After seeing a few abandoned library mods, I decided to try my hand at it with this kit. I actually have 2 of them, for some reason. Probably itchy buying fingers on temu.

I used real honeysuckle branches, dirt from my yard, gel for the water, and some greenery from other kits and hobby lobby. I also really did not love the 2D elements, so I made some out of beads and tiny shells, and some extra books I found on Amazon. I had to cut them down A LOT, because this is a very small scale. Maybe 1:48? I made the sculpture out of beads, but I'm still not in love with it. It's better than the tree that came with it.

As for the kit itself, instructions were fairly clear, and the pieces were sturdy. I used a few of the 2D decor on the shelves in the back on the bottom level, but I switched out almost all of the rest of them. The stairs were fine, but the piece it connects to at the top was strange to get into position. I ended up gluing the entire top stair set up and the rails before twisting it to glue it at the bottom. The doors were not exactly fun, but I peeled off the covering around the edges and glued everything in before installing and peeling all of it off. (Learned my lesson with that on the van Gogh nook)

I will attempt to add the video in the comments, but Reddit doesn't even want to let me post, so we'll see if it works!

Abandoned library

Turning wisdom rings into an abandoned library. I've added lots of 3D elements. I used the fake books in the shelves in back, since I was going to add in some vines and moss. I intend to add some puddles of water, too. I took a break for tonight, because the dreaded stairs are next!

Book titles

Technically, nook adjacent. I just thought the book selections were quite something for the recent Vincent van Gogh nook I did. This was A World Within the Frame. (I did switch some of them out for more appropriate titles)

Van Gogh modifications

I have done a LOT of edge painting (see marble bust and edge of marble table), as well as adding in some "rattan" on the chair. Today on my lunch break, I decided to created an absinthe bottle to replace the 2D apples that are now laying on the table. I used some extra acetate pieces from the edges along with UV gel and glow in the dark green nail powder.

Lantern of Galaxy

This was one of the first "nooks" I bought from temu when I first found this hobby. It's the 6th one I've finished. The magical galaxy aspect really appealed to me. It's called "The Lantern of Galaxy."

Not much customization on this one other than coloring some of the edges. It said 4-6 hours to build. I was not expecting that, but it probably took me 15.

All in all, it was a fun build, and everything fit where it was supposed to go. Mostly. A few mistakes were made. Extra pieces I had to go back and add later.... After I'd cut off other pieces that would not fit without them. Glue to the rescue!

I found out after making the cherry blossom box theater that I do NOT love creating teeny tiny things, so while this one had some fiddly parts, at least it didn't require a microscope!!

(I hope the video loads)

Giverny Garden by Tonecheer

I finished my fourth nook this weekend! Giverny Garden was significantly more involved than the other 2 (2 random ones and Arcade Dating). I also did several modifications. I colored almost every edge, added UV clear gel on the water, and added in plants in place of the 2D wisteria and irises. The lamps and birds gave me some trouble, and I ended up cutting off a couple of tabs on those. All in all, a really enjoyable build, but I'm not sure if I'm ready for Sea Breeze quite yet!
