ADHD IN MEDSCHOOL PLS HELP ME

Hi, I’m a YL1 in med school. I know that first year is an adjustment period, and it’s normal to be overwhelmed and overstimulated due to the enormous amount of things you need to study and prepare for, but my ADHD is actually making it 100x harder.

I know my responsibilities, I know what I need to do, yet my mind won’t cooperate. It’s making me so frustrated to be aware of the things that I need to do (like studying) yet I can’t do anything efficiently. I’M STRUGGLING SO BAD.

Like, for example, I’m going to study, but my focus keeps leaving me. Even if I remove all the things that can distract me, my brain will always find a way, like suddenly daydreaming or suddenly getting unbearably bored in the middle of it… which makes my progress so slow, like 2 PAGES PER HOUR (and I need to study 7–13 CHAPTERS) especially if the contents are hard to understand or new.

I couldn’t count how many times I’ve broken down crying within just 2 MONTHS in med school. However, I absolutely cannot give up, as this is my dream, and my parents have already sacrificed a lot in order for me to be in med school (Like nagbenta pa sila ng lupa para lang may pang-tuition ako).
Survival in med school is all about adaptation. If I cannot do that, then I won’t be able to proceed to the next year level, and I absolutely can’t afford that. Sorry for the rant pero meron po ba kayo mabibigay na advice regarding this? 🥲

NOICE CANCELLING HEADPHONE RECO

Do you guys know a good midrange noise-cancelling headphone for studying medicine? My brain gets distracted by literally anything, and people have told me that noise-cancelling headphones can help. However, I want something with both good ANC and comfort, especially since I wear eyeglasses.

HOW TO STUDY FAST

Hi, any tips po how to study fast but also retain a lot at the same time?

I’ve always been a slow reviewer, to the point that back in premed, it would take me 7 hours to finish a single trans. I’ve tried studying faster before, but wala talaga akong nare-retain kapag ganun. Also, my focus is so bad that I get distracted really easily. My brain easily starts daydreaming whenever I’m studying, and even little sounds or movements from people around me can distract me. Other reasons ata kung bakit ang slow ko din is ang brain ay puro “what if lumabas to?” or “what if di ko maalala?” kaya sometimes I will find myself reading the same thing over and over again.

First day pa lang ng med school, and I’m already panicking. There’s so much material to study in such a short amount of time and I badly want to change my study style so I can keep up. However, I’ve already tried different study methods before, pero nothing seems to work for me talaga.

Nagtry pa nga ko mag advance study, pero ending since super bagal ko and always distracted, walang nangyari since super short lang ng progress ko. Natabunan parin ako ng mga task.

Please, I’m desperate. I can’t afford to fail 😭

SBU Orientation

Hello, sorry to ask this here pero may kapwa YL1 ba ako here sa san beda? I just want to know if suspended parin po yung orientation. Again, sorry to ask it here di ko alam kasi san tatawag or magchachat sa school regarding this. Thank you!

SBU-COM Acceptance Letter

Hi, gano po ba katagal ang pag process ng requirements sa SBU? I submitted my application back on July 1, they accepted it and told me via email na they already send it to admission committee para mareview + ang batch 6 daw is mare-release this month. However, it’s already been 11-15 days at wala parin silang email if I got accepted or not. I’m just wondering if I should call na po ba to ask for updates or maghintay nalang patiently sa pagpost nila ng batch 6? I’m from province pa po kasi (12 hrs away) and kailangan ko pa po maghanap ng condo. I’m just getting anxious since august na daw po start ng class

SBU block/section arrangement

Hi, pano po pala ang arrangement ng blocks/sections sa SBU-COM? Is it alphabetical po ba, by batch, or depende sa kasabayan mo sa enrollment?

Med Student with a dog

Hi, I’m planning to bring my dog to manila and find a solo pet friendly condo/apartment. Do you guys think that’s a good idea?

Di ako nakapasa sa inapplyan ko na med school sa region namin and it’s the only med school dito na matino kaya naisipan ko mag manila nalang, specifically SBU. However, I cannot leave my dog sa house namin sa province at alam ko na ikukulong lang sya for 4 yrs + he has a lot of anxiety so he needs comfort from time to time. I think mas maiistress lang siya pag nakakulong, he’s a senior dog (7 yrs old) and I want to spend his remaining life with me as much as possibile. I know med school is very demanding but he also means a lot to me.

Naisip ko din na isama nalang siya tuwing babalik ako sa province during breaks, tho 12hrs yung travel. At pag 4th year na, where they say na palagi ka na nasa hospital, dun ko nalang talaga siya iwan sa house namin sa province.

What do you guys think?
