2nd attempt at playthrough, HELP
Hey everyone,
I’m on my second attempt at getting through Rogue Trader, and I’m hitting a wall that's completely draining my enjoyment. I genuinely love character building, rich world-building, heavy reading, and deep strategy games. On paper, this game should be my absolute jam. But my reality right now is that after a long day at work, I sit down to play, open up the level-up screen, and get hit with a monolithic wall of talent text. With six party members leveling up constantly, I end up spending 30 to 45 minutes just reading through dozens of hyper-specific talent choices trying to visualize synergies. Combine that massive wall of text with the game’s ambient music, and I find myself struggling to stay awake.
Owlcat's Pathfinder games are some of my absolute favorite... What is it about this game that makes me hate the building?
I’m currently trying to play on Daring because I want the combat to feel engaging and tactical, but the sheer choice paralysis is turning the game into a chore. I don't want to just copy-paste builds from YouTube or NeoSeeker because theorycrafting is usually half the fun for me—but right now, it’s just exhausting.
For those of you who pushed through:
- What kept you hooked? Does the mechanical payoff later in the game justify this massive initial reading investment?
- How do you approach leveling without burning out? Are there any mental filters, rules of thumb, or tricks you use to quickly narrow down the talent list so you aren't reading all 80 options every single time?
- Any tips for organic building on Daring? How forgiving is Daring if I just pick what sounds cohesive to me without perfectly min-maxing every single stackable talent?
Would love some advice on how to make this feel like a space opera adventure again instead of a second job. Thanks!
