Swimming aids for technique

So I’m starting my IM journey and although I can swim myself out of trouble in the pool or ocean waves, distance swimming is impossible as I know my technique is poor-to-terrible.

Is there a naturally progression of gear I should buy first or buy all of them to compliment YouTube tutorials on stroke correction?

I’ve seen handy drills with kickboards, front snorkels, pull-buoys, hand paddels?

Evidently, I HATE swimming and lowkey suck at it. I know it will be my worst discipline. I’d at least like to feel confident in my technique and so want to work on it.

Edit: thanks everyone! Sounds like the equipment I’m investing in is…. A coach ! 😅

Garmin HRM models

My training block is really starting to build in intensity and consistency moving into my first IM. I don’t really have a network of people around me that know too much about the useful gear.

I’m looking at finally getting my first HRM, and see that Garmin has a lot of models.

I was wondering if anyone had particular experiences that swayed them towards one or another? Or if it’s worth getting the HRM-Tri specifically?

Kind of want something that is going to last and provide solid, accurate, in depth stats so I’m open to the Pro or 600.

Cost isn’t too much a factor. I believe in getting solid gear that actually does the job properly.

Churrr ✌🏻

Heart rate monitor vs power meter vs Garmin Edge

Contextually, I’m starting my Ironman journey.

I’m a big data buff so like all the stats each can provide. I’ve never done any of these enduro disciplines and although I don’t have a set time-goal, I’d like to do more than just finish.

I’m hoping to be able to back up my training with hard output data to really get more benefits out of each session.

So I’m torn between the range of getting a HRM knowing it can be used across the swim/bike/run, or the more precision offered by the power meter or Garmin edge. I ride a 2021 Merida Reacto 5000.

I’m still learning and finding new tools so if there exists a device that balances each of these then I’m all ears.
