Tattoo a line from each In Verses track

This is something I really want to do, because the album and tour was so goddamn impactful on me (was going through a fucked up breakup with a serial liar and cheat who was addicted to the drama and pain), and I'm curious to see what lines others would choose. If real estate on my body wasn't at a premium (5'7ish, less than 50kg, AFAB with minimal body fat) I'd get it all but I dunno I guess I'll get the most important ones and see how I can take the pain. Can't hurt more than what I went through to get here haha. The must haves will be the lines from Ghost, Aozora, Conversations, Reanimation, Opal and Salva. I've got long limbs!

Ghost: Forget the truth preserve the evidence, it takes a fool to deny what is so evident
Drone: Try to stay lucid as you're shaking off the afterbirth with eyes wide open

Aozora: These things always go south, we failed to dig our way out

Animation: The illusion of hope when there can be no resolve

Conversations: Tired of carrying all of the dead around, so bury them with me now (either that or 'this one could have helped you, could have led you anywhere you want')

Reanimation: Too many times I was led to believe there was something to save, and every minute I spent chasing lies and dead ends I thought it would change

All It Takes: god there's so many good candidates, such a well written song. 'I don't want to prey on your honesty but I can't excuse your naivety' or 'For it's a cynical cycle now run like a rat on a wheel, pay for the thrill of it, kill for it, reset the cycle, begin' or 'We awake and we crawl through the ashes, feign an illusion 'cause everyone is watching us' or 'How can you say to me honestly, that this is the way that it has to be'

Remote Self Control: Blood in your mouth pulling the tubes out, breath in your lungs ready to scream out (this one I want because the whole section it's from is an incredibly specific reference to the style of an underground shoegaze band called Curve and it was a jolt to realise Ian was sounding like Toni Halliday on Pubic Fruit/Cuckoo and like how the fuck do the boys even know this band)

Opal: Sick of the pain in your stomach you try to cover your mouth, but the words keep spilling out and your hand's not quick enough

Salva: 'These things happen now, we stray into ruin even when all of the signs ahead say "What are you doing?" or 'Don't wait while I'm gone, I'm not coming home, say a few words at the funeral' or 'Let the sea wash away everything so I can begin to breathe, filling my lungs, ready to run for miles and miles and miles'

The tour. Just lifechanging

Hi I'm the lunatic who followed the band around the whole country while working on a stupidly ambitious art project*. I had a number of redditors come up and say hi (apparently my self description of 'Audrey Hepburn in headphones' was spot on lol) and I met so many great people along the way by saying yes to everything and then getting into scenarios like ending up in Rockingham after the second Perth show and my flight was at 6am, or a random club in Fortitude Valley on my own throwing shapes that people were making circles around me clapping and cheering and filming it. I beat cancer earlier this year but I still have a LOT of life ruining health issues, and I escaped an emotionally/psychologically abusive relationship (eventually) - that's a whole other story but they still kinda had me on the hook a little before I left and we were at the 'yeah we'll still be friends who'll hook up sometimes' stage, but the experience of doing this thing, and absolutely marinating in the meaning of the new album...I realised I don't need them in my life. At all. Apparently that was giving me some severe art blockage because oh boy do the juices be flowing now

Anyway. To commemorate this experience, the way it helped me worked through my shit and realise what I'm worth, I'm planning on tattoos of the most impactful (to me) lines from each track of In Verses. I have no tattoos and zero percent body fat, how much pain am i signing up for here lmao? ETA: https://imgur.com/a/vsUcU3x to give you an idea of what I'm working with, I had a double mastectomy because it was breast cancer. I don't cut or work out I just have an insanely fast metabolism and ridiculously low body fat for a post menopausal AFAB and I put on muscle very easily, this physique was purely just from traveling around the country going to the shows, and before anyone wants to say I wish I had your problem no you don't it is so expensive to eat the amount and type of food that I have to do to try and stay healthy lmao. I'm used to getting subcutaneous injections and infusions in hospital so if it's the same kind of deal probably my lower abdomen, butt, back of the calves, forearms and my thighs are going to be my best bet

*no it's not finished, yes it expanded in scope massively, yes I started work on another Karnivool-related project while procrastinating it's about the Sound Awake album and well...i'll definitely be posting it here when i'm done haha

(Mods I didn't realise the pic was gonna show up in the post preview if it's too NSFW let me know so I can fix it I'm not able to put it behind a cut on my phone)

Update on tour: two down, four to go!

hello I'm the lunatic who committed to following the band around while working on the gargantuan tarot mapping project, in this post here. It took a lot of botanically aided lateral thinking and obsessive listening to the albums but I've got something so tight and taut it is humming. The crowds have been fantastic so far, already made a bunch of new friends and missed my 6am flight because I did not realise Rockingham was so far away from where I was staying haha. All part of the adventure though!! Next stop Adelaide to rest up before tomorrow night. I've been recognised by several redditors at shows and it's been really cool just getting to know people and talking about the project.

A little snippet for ya'll - Simple Boy is the Six of Swords reversed and the killer part about this one is the lyrics in the verse that begins 'I will fight til there's nothing left' are literally describing the artwork of the Rider Waite card and the meaning imbued in it when it's reversed. So help me now describe the scene - you just did broseph and it's exactly as bleak as it looks

So I have a little project going on ...

I wanted to do some fan art because I know someone who can get it to the band I think fingers crossed but I wanted to make it something really meaningful, so I set myself the absolutely gargantuan task of mapping Themata and Sound Awake (it's a double concept album separated by four years but if you know you know, like the old joke about asking when is change part two coming and Ian would always say when it happens you'll know) to tarot cards - not just the individual songs but the entire narrative arc of both albums. I've got the template all mapped out I just need to write it up which I'm going to do on my flight from Melbourne to Perth tomorrow, get it printed somewhere and try and find some kind of nice book cover to put it in. Rider Waite deck of course.

I really can't tell if this is cringe or not but the story that these albums tell is absolutely fascinating and I'd like to think that if not the band themselves at least other fans might appreciate seeing this kind of project, cos I mean it's prog metal we're all into some sort of mysticism haha. What do you guys think?

Aus tour - anyone else doing a pilgrimage?

I've never followed a band around the country before but the last few years have been absolutely brutal on me, but I sold my apartment earlier in the year, the 'vool are one of my favourite bands and I realised well fuck it, I'm middle aged and my life just fell apart so why not? Got the money to do it which I never really had before either

I'll be doing this alone now though, and it might be neat to meet up with some people. Metal folks have always been the nicest and sweetest fanbase of any genre and I will be going places I don't necessarily know anyone, like Adelaide and Brisbane. Hometown is Melbourne where they're playing an arena to 10,000 people, I will definitely be crying to New Day lol
