Login workflow help

Daily-driver workflow with Bitwarden on a vault where every login is 2FA + federated (Sign in with Apple/Google)?

I'm moving to qutebrowser as my daily browser on OpenBSD (dwm). Password manager is Bitwarden with the bw CLI, and I've got the qute-bitwarden userscript filling username/password via fake-key.

My problem: every single login I have uses two-factor, and a large share go through "Sign in with Apple" or "Sign in with Google" rather than a plain password box. On those federated pages the fake-key fill doesn't land in the field at all, and the TOTP step is a separate manual action anyway.

For people running qutebrowser full-time with a setup like this:

  1. How do you actually handle the federated Apple/Google sign-in pages? Does fake-key work for you there, or do you route those logins elsewhere?
  2. What's your TOTP flow? --totp to clipboard then paste, a separate --totp-only bind, or something else?
  3. Which qute-bitwarden variant is the most reliable one in 2026? There are several forks (JonnyHaystack and others). Which do you run?
  4. Is anyone genuinely doing 100% of logins through qutebrowser when everything is 2FA, or is the realistic answer "qutebrowser for browsing, another browser for the awkward logins"?

OpenBSD specifics if it matters: no keyctl, using dmenu instead of rofi, xclip for clipboard.

Blunt answers welcome. I want to know if this is a solved workflow or if I'm fighting the tool.

Thinkpad T490 & Asus Zenbook 14 OLED UX3405MA mic 🎤

Built-in mic on my ThinkPad T490 records nothing on 7.9. Got told it needs firmware OpenBSD does not support.
Thinking about putting 8.0 on my Asus Zenbook 14 OLED UX3405MA, but I need the mic for work calls. Anyone got the built-in mic working on a newer Intel laptop? Or is it the same story?

Suckless is great

Hi I rarely do this and I don’t want to sound cringe, but man suckless is awesome. I run dwm on OpenBSD and dwl on Debian . Both I watch YouTube in terminal and playing music and photo viewer and file manager. I just like this very clean feel too it.

Thinkpad T490 fan control ?

Hi
I really want to keep OpenBSD on my ThinkPad T490, but the fan noise is driving me up the wall. Even sitting at an idle desktop or just poking around in a terminal, the fan ramps up almost immediately and just refuses to calm down.
I know acpithinkpad is read-only and fan control is entirely hardwired to the EC, so manual fan control isn't happening. But before I give up and wipe the drive, I wanted to ask if anyone daily-driving a T490 has managed to make this machine tolerable.
Did switching between apmd flags or running obsdfreqd make any real difference for you, or did you have to flash a specific Lenovo BIOS/EC update to get sane trip points? If there is any trick to shave a couple of degrees off idle so the EC stops triggering full blast, I'd really appreciate hearing what worked for you.

I would really appreciate it

OpenCL work around or something

Subject: Question about OpenCL support and photo editing on OpenBSD

Hi all,

I'd like to ask a question I hope isn't too naive — I'm not deeply technical on the graphics stack side, so I'm genuinely asking rather than suggesting anything.

OpenBSD is my favourite operating system by a wide margin, and I run it on an Asus Zenbook UX3405MA (7.9). Almost everything works. The one thing that keeps pulling me back to Linux is the lack of OpenCL, because I do photo editing and rely on darktable. It runs on CPU, but on larger raw files the difference is significant enough that it affects real work.

So my question: is there any realistic path toward OpenCL on OpenBSD — even partial or limited support, enough for GPU offload in applications like Darktable? Or are there fundamental reasons (driver model, security posture, maintenance burden) that make it impractical or undesirable? I'd genuinely like to understand the reasoning either way rather than just keep wishing for it.

I'm also aware I'm only one user with one use case, so if the answer is "not going to happen, and here's why" that's a perfectly good answer. Reason I ask is because I work as a photographer on a daily basis. I do have a OpenBSD on my Thinkpad but I would like to use my main computer all in one. And when you edit photos taken from a 40 Mega pixel sensor and edit around 30 to 40 photos per day its pretty rough LOL.

Thanks for all the work — the suspend/resume and browser situation on this hardware has already improved a lot, and it's appreciated.

Best regards

Debian updates

Hi am I the only who feels Debian push a lots of updates lately ? I am long time Void user and FreeBSD and I honestly at this point feel Void gets the same amount of updates ? freeBSD much less and calmer it’s not a roast it’s a question. I feel every time at this point when I turn on my laptop and need to work updates available not apps but system updates.
