Grafting Advice

I have never grafted anything before but I believe this tree is grown out rootstock that overtook whatever was grafted on it. Before I remove it entirely I am going to attempt to graft it with some citrus budwood that I ordered.

Any advice on my draft of placement for the grafts?

Neglected Apple Tree

This apple tree has been sadly neglected. My husband is itching to fulfill his lumberjack dreams and chop it down but I’m hoping it can still be saved.

I’m 95% sure the circled branch is dead but does anyone know what causes the black/peeling? I’m not sure if it’s worth the time and energy to try to save it when it’s also on the main trunk.

Last year it had some leaves but no fruit. The prior year it had fruit.
