Wanting to transition careers, not sure how to get there

Hi, so I’ve been looking at Master’s programs lately but am still really undecided. More info, for context:

- Current Experience: I’ve been working for the federal government for 5 years. Unfortunately I’ve plateau’d pretty hard. The work is always slow & under stimulating. My undergrad degree is in International Relations & Spanish but I ended up working in comms, and now I only have general comms experience. I’ve been working in marketing the last few years but I’m so low on the ladder that I’m basically an administrative assistant, so I don’t have real marketing experience that could get me a job in the private sector. I’ve been applying to all sorts of job outside the government but have no real experience of private sector work so I can’t get anything. Inside government, there are currently mass layoffs and hiring freezes so there’s no mobility at the moment. Overall comms has been boring. I previously worked in media and that was a bit more fun, but mostly data analysis type work (again, dull).

- Where I want to go: In my free time I’m really passionate about event planning & gathering people. I was thinking of orienting myself towards project management. Event management seems fun but I don’t want to work evenings & weekends. I like some of the small project management tasks I’ve done, and it seems to fit my strengths. I’d also like a bigger salary and opportunities for advancement. I’d eventually like to manage a team.

- Ideas for studies: I was looking into a Masters of Project Management but found out it’s considered largely useless. People recommend an MBA, then doing the PMP certification. However, that’s a lot more expensive and not useful if I want to go back to government work one day. I’m also looking into Masters of Management (then go do my PMP after getting a more relevant job), Masters in Strategic Marketing & Comms (because I have experience in this and maybe in another job that’s faster paced & media focused I’d enjoy it, although I’m not sure how many job opportunities are in this field), some sort of Masters in Management/Leadership/Digital Strategy (more general so I can work towards project management, and relevant to the future of the workplace with some AI classes).

Any and all help finding my path is appreciated, thanks!

Is a Masters of Project Management from EAE Business School worth it?

Hi, so I applied to the Masters of Project Management program in Madrid, and I wanted some advice before I commit. A few questions specifically:

  1. Is a Masters of Project Management worth it? Keeping in mind I haven’t been able to gain job experience in the field naturally, because I only have comms experience and most companies want some sort of experience or training. I also want to move to Spain, and the student visa is one of the easiest ways so it seems like a good option right now.

  2. Is EAE business school in Madrid good? I tried looking into different programs but I don’t want to live in Barcelona which removes options. I also don’t know much about schools in Europe or Spain so can’t gauge whether it’s good / reputable or not.

  3. Does anyone know if the degree transfers properly over to Canada, or I’d need to do some sort of course to be certified here? Keeping in mind the masters includes the PMP certification from PMI.
