Easy to grow plants

I have an indoor terrarium with soil and a UV light that I've tried to grow plants in for soil cover, but nothing has survived for very long. Are there any plants safe for turtles that are difficult to kill accidentally? Particularly useful plants for ground cover, but edible plants would be fine too.

Anywhere with garden snails?

Weird question, but do garden snails exist anywhere in the Tempe area? I have a box turtle that I feed snails to (after a purging process for parasites), but I'm running low on my supply. Is there a place nearby I might be able to do some early morning snail hunting, or do I have to wait for winter or drive to another state?
