So this is an IKEA shelf next to my desk. Bought a few acrylic risers on Amazon. I’m using scrapbooking dots on the rear left tire to keep them in place.

Currently it’s lights from a Lego kit that I’ve repurposed. Conceptually it’s working enough I’ll probably buy a real mini LED and white wire.

I’d rotate cars in once a month or so.

I’m sure one of you must’ve tried something similar out there.

Definitely not my usual Matchbox buy, but I finally caved on the yellow ’94 Lotus Esprit. I’m usually all about trucks, buses, emergency, but this one just looks too good in person. The moving part is meh but growing on me but the casting and color are excellent.

I’m working on a small local history project could use advice from people who actually know dahlias - the subject of my latest article.

These are three Hav-A-Look dahlias bred by George L. Fish of South Billerica, Massachusetts, in the 1920s. The surviving material I have includes black-and-white catalog photos and written color descriptions (his words are what is included on the images), but no known color images.

I’m using AI to colorize/reconstruct them. That is not something I’m trying to hide. The goal is not to create “real” color photographs or claim these are exact. The goal is to make historically plausible visual interpretations based on the catalog descriptions.

The three varieties are:

Hav-A-Look Gem
Described as a creamy colored incurved hybrid cactus type, with petal edges bright vermilion shading to orange, then changing to henna with age. Petals incurving more ball-like. Average size.

Hav-A-Look Dazzler
Described as a Hybrid Decorative, nearly nine inches across, high full center, long flat petals slightly twisting at the ends and recurving toward the back. Color described as intense glowing crimson scarlet with a velvety sheen.

Frances Cooper of Hav-a-Look
Described as an immense Hybrid Decorative, shades of orange apricot, with carrot red tones on the reverse of the petals and a cadmium yellow high full center. About nine inches across.

For dahlia people: do these AI colorized versions look botanically plausible and reasonably consistent with the descriptions? Is there anything obviously wrong?

I must admit to not knowing much about dahlias but this was an interesting thing to learn!

Any corrections or cautions would be appreciated.
