I placed a cup of water on my high John alter and I came back a day ago to crystals or what look like salt or sugar floating in the water what could that be?

Hey y’all I lit a candle today for high John today i’ve been working with the root for a few weeks now I’ve been building a relationship with it and I feed it weekly so this weekend I wanted to build a altar for him and I ended up getting some candles, two pennies and some sweets, and so I lit the candle today because I was excited to show high John and when I lit the candle, it started to crackle a little bit, and then the flame went into two and the flame was dancing and moving to the right then, after some time of me talking to him, it emerged back into one flame I let it burn for a minute or two and then I blew it out but my question is should I let the candle burn a little longer? Was it disrespectful for me to blow the candle out?
