What would you do?
Here’s my situation: my wife and I are mid-30s and make around 200k in a medium cost of living city in the Midwest in the US. We have a very close group of friends that are spread all over (like 4-6 hours away for most of them) and the city we live in feels pretty unfulfilling, but very comfortable most days.
The problem: I have the opportunity to move somewhere I’ve been dreaming of my whole adult life. Well it’s really just an interview at this stage but it would be a huge change. 12+ hours away from the life we both grew up with and that same distance away from all of our family. It’s in a highly sought after, very scenic part of the country but relatively remote as well.
We’ve both sort of decided we’re in a rut here but the life we have is dangerously comfortable. We could both retire in our 50s with pensions and fat savings but the years between now and then will mostly be void of much daily satisfaction.
If we moved we’d be losing a decent amount of that financial security but gaining access to some of the best public lands in the US as well as a naturally more adventurous lifestyle and neighbors who more closely align with our own personal values.
Looking for advice from others who have been in this situation and what you personally decided. Im going through with the interview either way but im worried about ruining a goody thing for a pipe dream.
