Montauk line trains were skipping Bay Shore this morning due to police activity. There were lots of cops in north parking lot. Any idea what happened?

I've got about 30 students enrolled in my 5 week asynchronous summer class. Today I opened the course to students and sent them the syllabus in the hope that students will move to another section of the course taught by a different professor which has about 20 students enrolled.

So far, one student has disappeared from the roster. We will see what happens.

Teaching asynchronous online classes at a CC. I made it more difficult to use AI, which may have also made the assignments more difficult.

Started with a total of 62 students. By the end of the semester, 11 withdrew and 23 got Fs. There were 4 D grades and then a roughly equal number of A B and C grades.

Most of the F students gave up and stopped submitting work. A few continued to submit failing grade work. A bunch got 0 grades for using AI. I'm sure some of them passed by using AI when I couldn't prove it.

We will see if the chair expresses concern. My course uses a standard textbook and has pretty standard assignments. I am contemplating reducing the workload for them and myself next semester.

I've got a pile of blue books I've been ignoring for a week. More are on the way.

What do you do to make yourself do the hated grading?

Babylon to Penn Station:

The Long Island Rail Road completed the electrification of the line from Jamaica to Babylon on May 20, 1925, with normal operations beginning the following day.

Express Trains: Approximately 60–65 minutes. These trains bypassed many of the smaller stations between Babylon and Jamaica.

Local Trains: Approximately 70–75 minutes. These made all the stops, including then-active stations like Springfield Gardens or various stops in eastern Queens.

Service has basically not improved in 100 years.
