I adapted Chapter 1 of The Great Gatsby into a Comic
I’ve been building a way to turn prose into sequential visual stories while keeping control over the characters, staging, composition, and shots.
This is my first real test: Chapter 1 of The Great Gatsby.
I wanted to approach it like an actual adaptation, not just generate illustrations from passages. I’ve been studying how Korean webtoon studios structure production, especially 콘티 (konti), along with the Marvel Method, and built a NotebookLM project around the course material and research.
The workflow I ended up using was:
Prose → Story Map → Reading Script → Shots & Panels → Generate
I also made everything in 4:5 for social media, which created some interesting constraints around space, pacing, and panel layouts.
Curious what works, what doesn’t, and whether you’d keep reading.
