1989 Cos d'Estournel
Right out of the gate, this shows a prominent nose with clear notes of cedar and leather. A beautiful ruby color. It's surprisingly lively and youthful for its age, holding onto a good amount of dark berry and plum fruit. As it sits in the glass, it shows off intricate layers of flavor. There is a clear iron and almost bloody character in the background, mixed with beautiful herbal, vegetal, and forest notes. Amazingly, some violet and floral elements are still there. Tannins are fantastically smooth and velvety, leading into a long, clean finish that lingers. A complex and beautiful bottle.
